HydraFacial Keravive aftercare: what to do first 48 hours

The single most important rule after a HydraFacial Keravive Treatment is simple: keep your scalp dry and product-free for the first 24 hours. Keravive is designed to deep clean and nourish the scalp, and that first day is when I want everything I applied in your 90-minute session to stay put. If you’re in Lynchburg, plan ahead, because late-summer humidity can sneak up on you and turn an “easy day” into a sweaty one fast.
First 24 to 48 hours: the Keravive rules that protect your scalp
Right after Keravive, I generally recommend you treat your scalp like it’s “set” for the day. That means no washing, no leave-in styling products, and no heavy sweating for at least 24 hours. Your scalp just went through a deep cleanse and infusion of nourishment, so you don’t want to rinse it away or clog it right back up.
For the first 24 hours: Keep the scalp dry. Skip shampoo, conditioners on the scalp, dry shampoo, hairspray, oils, serums, and any “scalp drops” you already have at home.
Exercise is the biggest one people underestimate. If you feel like you have to work out, aim for light activity where you’re not sweating. In Lynchburg’s warmer months, even a quick outdoor walk can turn into sweat, so I usually suggest scheduling Keravive on a lower-activity day.
For 24 to 72 hours, I also want you out of pools, hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms. Chlorine and heat are two easy ways to irritate a freshly treated scalp. If you live near Tate Springs Road or you’re coming in from Forest or Madison Heights, weekend appointments often make this easier since you can keep the rest of your day simple.
Days 3 to 7: when you can wash again, plus what to avoid for a full week
Once you’re past that first 24-hour window, you can usually ease back into normal routines, but I still want you to keep things gentle for the first week. When you do wash, reach for a mild, sulfate-free shampoo. Use lukewarm water, keep your pressure light, and don’t “scrub” with your nails. Clean fingertips only.
Washing tip that matters
After shampooing, pat your scalp and hair dry. Skip aggressive towel-rubbing. Heat styling is fine to return to slowly, but keep it moderate at first.
What I want you to skip
Hold off on chemical services like hair color, perms, and relaxers for the first week. Skip strong scalp scrubs, high-strength exfoliants, and picking at any dry spots.
If you’re a Liberty University student or you commute on US-29 or US-501, I get it. Life’s busy. The good news is that Keravive downtime is usually practical, as long as you respect the first day and don’t stack it right before a workout class, an outdoor festival, or a tailgate where you’ll be in heat and humidity.
Simple products and habits for Keravive aftercare (no complicated routine)
Keravive aftercare works best when you keep your routine clean and consistent. I’m not looking for you to add ten new steps. I’m looking for you to stop doing the few things that undo results.
- Shampoo: Choose gentle and sulfate-free when you restart washing. If your scalp tends to feel tight or reactive, avoid heavily fragranced formulas for the week.
- Conditioner and masks: Keep them on mid-lengths and ends. Try not to “condition the scalp” for the first week unless I specifically told you to.
- Styling products: Go light at the roots at first. Heavy pomades, waxes, and oily serums can crowd the follicle area.
- Hands off: If you notice a little dryness or flaking, don’t pick. Gentle washing and patience usually handle it.
What’s normal after Keravive, and when I want to hear from you
A little sensitivity, mild redness, or light flaking can happen after a scalp-focused treatment, especially if you’re already prone to dryness. That usually settles quickly when you keep products simple and avoid heat, sweat, and friction.
I do want you to reach out right away if you notice escalating pain, significant swelling, fever, drainage, or anything that feels like an infection. Don’t wait it out. Call me so I can help you sort out what’s going on and what to do next.

A quick note on scheduling: Consistency matters with scalp work. If you’re coming from Evington, Rustburg, Gladys, or right here in Lynchburg, I’m happy to help you pick appointment times that make the first 24 hours easy to follow.
